COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

for Adults, Children, Young People and Couples

About Counselling

There are times in our lives where we can find ourselves feeling down, anxious, or struggling with motivation. It could feel as though this has come from nowhere, or perhaps there has been a specific event or loss that is making it feel hard to cope. With all the pressures in life at the moment, there are times it can all feel a bit overwhelming.

I am an integrative-relational therapist, which means I use tools and techniques from many different theories to work with each person individually. I appreciate the importance of past events, and together we can work through these to see how they may be impacting you today.

Whether you have a specific goal to work on, such as building confidence, or something just doesn’t feel quite right, we can work on this together. You may be finding yourself feeling depressed, panicky, or perhaps struggling with a trauma and unsure where to turn. Together we can try to unpick what’s going on for you, and provide you with a confidential space to explore your feelings and difficulties. By looking at your past, as well as the here and now, we can collaborate to make links and aim to help you gain understanding, empowering you to find your own solutions.

My aim is to provide a safe, non-judgemental place for you to explore what has brought you to therapy, talk through the difficulties you are facing, and establish what you would like to gain from our work together. I offer

face-to-face counselling in Epsom and Ewell, and Zoom sessions. I also provide therapy via webchat (WhatsApp) and email (Egress).

Areas that I have worked on with clients include:

Trauma/PTSD/C-PTSD

Relationship/family issues

Eating disorders

Stress/anxiety

Low self-esteem

Depression

Anxiety

Shame

Self-harm

Sexual issues

Sexual trauma

Chronic illness

Neurodiversity

Gender identity

Bereavement and grief

I facilitate both long-term and short-term work, and in our initial session we will discuss what you hope to gain from therapy, and the areas you would like to focus on.

About Me

SophieP_edited.jpg

I began my journey into counselling working at a local charity which supported people with mental and physical health difficulties. I have been a Samaritan for several years, and run confidence building courses for both adults and young people.

My initial training was in CBT, but I decided I would like to become a psychotherapeutic counsellor, working from a holistic place of looking at past and present experiences.

I hold a first class degree in Integrative-Relational Counselling from Middlesex University, and a Level 5 in Counselling Children and Young People (OCN), as well as an Integrative Sex and Couples Certificate (CSTIP). I have also completed several specialist courses, including a Certificate in Trauma Treatments from the British Psychological Society, attachment-based Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples in Crisis, and a Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Eating Disorders from NCFED. I have undertaken the first two parts of the EMDR Accredited training, and am able to offer this in sessions.

I also teach on a counselling diploma at a local college.

I am an accredited member of the BACP and I abide by their Code of Ethics to ensure I am working ethically, creating a collaborative and positive relationship with my clients.

Fees

Coffee and paper

Generally sessions are held weekly, on the same day and at the same time.

My fee is £60 for a 50 minute session for individuals.

For couples, the fee is £80 for a 60 minute session.

Webchat sessions and weekly emails are charged at £50.

While I am completing my training, I can offer EMDR sessions at the reduced rate of £35.

My cancellation policy is 48 hours notice, otherwise the missed session is payable.

However I would not want difficult financial situations to be a barrier to accessing therapy. I have some reduced rates for those on a low income or students, or I can refer you to organisations that may be able to help.

Please do get in touch to discuss your needs.
